PACKAGING, LOGISTICS & PRODUCT LIFE CYCLE
Packaging

- MONIER strives to reduce the amount of packaging used
Environmentally friendly packaging materials have been developed in co-operation with our customers and suppliers. We aim to use recyclable materials and consume less via re-usable boxes. Here are some activities listed, meant to save packaging material and to achieve waste reduction:
- Reduction and re-use of packaging materials
- Reduction of energy consumption to package products
- Return of used packaging material
- Introduction of strap banding to replace plastic foil packaging
- Pallet return systems, where customers are encouraged to return wooden pallets on which our products are packed.
Logistics
- We strive to minimise the environmental impact of our transport by manufacturing our tiles locally, near to the markets
- We also aim to supply our raw materials either locally or through our own sand pits and clay winning located near our plants.
- We use bio-diesel and bio-hydraulic oils for our fork lift trucks.
In minimising the distance our products are transported we reduce noise, fuel consumption and pollution.
Product life cycle and recycling
The use of natural raw materials, environmentally friendly production processes and supply chain optimisation is only one part of the story. The quality, durability and functionality of our products are also a tribute to the environment. Here is how we make sure our products contribute to a sustainable future.
- Due to the natural “ingredients” of our products, re-utilisation and recycling of roofing tiles is obvious. In some countries and under certain circumstances dismantled tiles are crushed and directly returned to the tile production process. Some of our business units were pace setters in tile recycling, having introduced such equipment some 20 years ago.
- We are constantly developing innovative sustainable products and systems designed for minimum environmental impact and with full functionality, performance and aesthetics.
- We continually analyse the environmental impacts of our product life cycles, from raw material sourcing, to production, to distribution to disposal (Eco-balance).
- Concrete tiles re-absorb more than 20% of the emitted CO2 from the cement production due to carbonation over their lifetime.
- Our quality products are extremely durable and weather tight, while keeping their aesthetically pleasing look and performance over a long period of time. Most of our business units give long-term guarantees on roofing tiles and on the functional performance of a roofing system.
