ECO-BALANCE
ENVIRONMENTALLY AWARE
As the leading company in its industry, MONIER takes its environmental responsibilities seriously. One way this is demonstrated is by employing ecologically-sound production techniques while assessing the environmental impact of each MONIER product. As part of this, the independent Öko-Institut Freiburg (ecological institute) in Germany has undertaken an environmental comparison of the two main product groups: clay and concrete roof tiles. This study has also been reviewed by a second institute.
Customers select products according to a growing number of criteria, with colour, shape and the perception of naturalness traditionally playing the most important role. The Öko-Institut’s ecological assessment now offers environmentally-conscious customers an additional, objective criterion for selecting a mineral roofing material.
According to the criteria analysed in the assessment – the greenhouse effect, acidification potential, eutrophication, photooxidation and fine dust – concrete roof tiles were classified as very environmentally friendly.
