MONIER TESTS PRODUCTS IN WIND TUNNEL
Performance tests are the basis for long-term materials guarantees for quality roofing materials resistant to all weathers
Friday 21, May 2010
When you buy a roof you want it to offer protection against the elements for decades. The MONIER Group tests its roofing materials in a wind tunnel unique in the industry. It is located in Heusenstamm near Frankfurt/Main (Germany).
The wind tunnel can simulate wind and rain conditions found in a wide range of different climate zones worldwide. The simulations include situations which typically occur only once every 50 years. Only when the new roofing materials have passed the wind tunnel test and numerous other performance tests including long-term durability tests, does the MONIER Group release its innovations for sale. The roofing tiles then come with a decades-long guarantee on the materials, which provides security for customers all over the world.
The windtunnel testing is based on weather data which MONIER has been collecting continuously in many countries for decades. Usually four representative scenarios per climate zone are simulated. Wind, the amount of rainfall and roof pitch are only some of the parameters which are specifically targeted during the tests. Experienced roofing specialists observe and analyse the behaviour of the roofing materials in the wind tunnel. Thus 120 different roof tiles and systems were tested in 2009 alone.
