Business Unit and country: Monier Braas GmbH

Why did you decide to work for Monier after graduation?

Towards the end of my time at grammar school, I began to wonder what I might do after my Abitur (highest German school qualification at 18+). I thought it might be a bit narrow for my personal career if I opted for a traditional vocational training course, whereas a purely academic course at a university would be too far removed from everyday life. Then I heard about the option of a dual studies course which combines both hands-on practical experience at a company and the more theoretical perspective that you would normally acquire at a university.

This is the kind of training that is offered by Monier and very clearly promoted by it, partly through its subsidies for tuition fees, study resources and travel expenses. I was particularly impressed by the internationalism of the Group, because once I’ve finished my training, I’ll be able to gather experience at a Monier company outside Germany.

What did you learn through your dual training at Monier? Could you give us the three most important points?

By working in each of the different departments, I learnt above all how to work responsibly and independently. I was also given a fundamental understanding for the processes that take place within the company. And of course I learnt to stay calm and focused in stressful situations.

How did your training at Monier’s help you discover and develop your personal and professional skills?

During my training I was deployed in a variety of departments, not just one place. And in each of the departments I was often involved in everyday issues on an equal footing. So I learnt a lot about the company and also about my own personal skills. I learnt to deal with a wide variety of situations and which specialisation might suit me best.

What makes Monier unique? How would you describe its corporate culture?

What I find unique about Monier is that each person – regardless of the department where they work – can have a hand in the development of the company as a whole. Each person is given an opportunity to contribute their product ideas, proposals for process improvements, etc. It shows that each member of staff is greatly valued by Monier and that everyone is important to the success of the company.
