MARCO ASIANI
QUALITY CONTROL
Nationality: Italian
Business Unit and country: MONIER Italy, Castelletto di Branduzzo plant
In the Group since: August 2007
Why did you join Monier?
After graduating with a degree in Geological Sciences and Technology from the University of Milan-Bicocca in April 2007, I immediately sent out my curriculum vitae to various companies and geology firms, in order to find a position related to my studies. I attended an AutoCAD course at a small geology firm for two months and was then contacted for an interview by MONIER, and I was hired on 1 August 2007 for the position of Quality Control. My decision to accept the offer by MONIER was based on the international nature of the company, on the prospects of a career in a large multinational company and on the opportunity to work in a field related to my studies, via the analysis of raw materials (clay and sand) in the laboratory.
As a new entrant, what do you expect to gain from starting your career at MONIER?
MONIER is a large multinational company in the tiles sector, and by beginning my career in MONIER, I expect to gain experience in all of the stages of processing that are essential to obtain a good quality roof tile: from preparation of raw materials to inspection of the semi-finished product and the finished good. Furthermore, I enjoy the atmosphere of communication and collaboration with production and maintenance personnel, aiming to support them in the daily solution of problems, which I believe is an optimal approach. My future objective is to occupy a position of increasing responsibility within the company.
Now that you are working in roofing materials, what are the major characteristics that make this industry unique?
Working in the clay industry, especially in the tile sector, is not a simple task, as there are many variables to be taken into consideration during all phases of production. The biggest characteristic of this industry is the care and attention that must be dedicated to each phase of processing, in order to obtain a quality product that achieves results on the market.
Being a new employee, how would you describe your first impressions of the work environment and your integration into your team or department?
Upon joining the company, I was immediately impressed by the entire Group’s focus on safety. In fact, the work environment is very safe, as well as clean and tidy. Despite working with clay and sand, a great deal of importance is placed on keeping the entire plant clean and on ensuring everything is in its proper place.
I immediately got along with my colleagues and was quickly made to feel at ease, right from the first day, and everyone, from the factory workers to the other office staff and managers, welcomed me in a very friendly manner.
A global player like MONIER needs people who are able to work in an international environment. What does the company's internationality mean for you and your everyday job?
One feels very “international” when working at MONIER, as the group has a widespread global presence. In my job as Quality Control, I have the opportunity to work with the Technical Centre, particularly regarding the individual clays and mixtures. This provides me with the invaluable support of colleagues with experience and visibility across all plants in the Group.
