ROSLI SHARIFF
HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR FOR MALAYSIA & INDONESIA
Nationality: Malaysian
Business Unit and country: MONIER in Malaysia and Asean countries
In the Group since: March 2007
Why did you join MONIER?
When I first joined the organisation, it was in the midst of change and that was what excited me and influenced my decision to join. The building materials industry in Malaysia, or even in this region of the world, has a facade or image that it is less superior to other industries. But this is not true! What was refreshing to me when joining the organisation was the way MONIER would change that external perception positively. To date, strong marketing efforts have been undertaken and I can already start to see the new identity being appreciated by many. But it does not stop here, as the process will also have to include many changes to the way we did things in the past. This includes the way we attract, motivate and retain employees. This process of change is a challenge indeed, and that was what I had wanted to be a part of.
What was your first position in the Group and which career steps followed?
I joined MONIER in my current position and have completed just less than one year of service to date. There have not been any major changes in my job, but looking at the dynamics of the organisation, I am confident that my career here will not stagnate. In addition to being an organisation that promotes personal development, MONIER also emphasizes performance and commitment. In this sense, it would also be a 'to do' or a responsibility on my part to want progression and to work toward it.
How has your experience with the Group helped you develop your personal and professional skills?
There are many Subject Matter Experts within the Group. The channels of communication are also very open. Once within the Group, I immediately realized the abundance of knowledge. MONIER is present in many countries throughout the world and the international networking and sharing of experiences definitely promotes the increase of one's knowledge. This in turn broadens horizons and presents the many different ways of doing things.
What makes MONIER unique? How would you describe the company culture?
The emphasis on Health & Safety is unparalleled to any!
