ANDREA BENINCASA
GROUP VICE PRESIDENT ORGANISATION & HUMAN RESOURCES
What are MONIER’s values?
Our vision, ‘To be the first choice in quality roofing’ leads to two commitments: One is about quality products and services. We at MONIER are committed to providing more value to our customers than our competitors do, thus becoming the preferred supplier. Our other commitment is about our quality organisation: the know-how and entrepreneurship of our employees, and their ability to engage in teamwork and safety are key factors to their success and the success of our Group. We commit to build up a culture that favours such distinctive talents. Health and safety is our first value and an integral part of operational excellence at MONIER. We are committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for our employees, and the management is accountable for this. Everyone working for MONIER expects a safe and healthy work environment, and in turn, we expect everyone to contribute to that through responsible behavior.
What does people development look like at MONIER?
We are a learning organisation based on continuous, open and constructive feedback, driven by our Performance Management System, which assures the necessary level of fairness and professionalism in the assessment of individual performance. Obviously this needs to be integrated by both technical or managerial training and developmental assignments, ensuring that MONIER people have the right level of know-how to fit with our market leading position. Specific target group development programs like the “MONIER Leadership Program”, or the “Living Safety” training provide in-depth knowledge.
How would you describe the company culture at MONIER?
Our company culture is distinguished by an entrepreneurial attitude, with an emphasis on learning from experience and freedom to take decisions. Our products fulfill a basic human need for comfortable, safe and attractive living conditions, so our passion for quality is key for us. Trust and effective teamwork, focused on achieving practical results, are the guiding principles in our day-to-day work. We offer an environment that encourages our people to develop within our Group over the long-term.
What does career management look like at MONIER?
Career management at MONIER, whether technical or managerial, is characterised by a shared responsibility among the manager, her/his boss and HR. The manager can influence his own career by delivering high performance, developing his potential and taking advantage of job opportunities available in our organisation. The boss is responsible for setting clear objectives and providing the right level of information and means to perform the job, while continuously coaching and giving feedback. Finally, HR delivers the right tools (e.g. the MONIER Group Job Market), monitoring and assuring that the whole process is fair and leads to good decisions. As career management is key to our quality organisation, MONIER’s top management is involved in this process by taking part in regular Group Career Committees.
How does MONIER reward performance?
Our compensation & benefits policy is designed to ensure that our packages are competitive, matching external benchmarks, and to properly reward high performance. Our bonus scheme is based on financial and personal objectives, with the first enabling managers to participate in the financial performance of the company, and the second being linked to personal performance. Last but not least, consistently good performance is the basis of our career management.
What does effective collaboration between people at MONIER mean?
In our Group we have deep and broad international experience and know-how rooted in our local businesses and our central functions. To leverage on this relevant asset, reflect our leadership, and avoid reinventing the wheel, we have to make sure that experience and knowledge are exchanged and made available to the relevant parts of our organisation. This is facilitated by international functional meetings involving mainly the commercial, industrial, finance and HR functions, as well as by electronic platforms that allow teamwork via virtual tools.
What opportunities does MONIER offer young professionals looking for their first position?
We are an international, modern managerial company where graduates in their first job can give an important contribution by exploiting the knowledge linked to their study areas, and by quickly taking over responsibilities. We are committed to developing talents and potential through training, coaching and recognition, offering both local and international career perspectives in an informal working environment.
What about opportunities for people coming in with already significant work experience?
In a highly competitive environment, having people with rich experience in the key positions of our organisation is more important than ever. With simple structures and processes we strive to be efficient and focused on our priorities, assigning challenging responsibilities to our managers, with an extensive freedom to take decisions. We are well aware that people in these positions deserve a fair package, in line with the market, as this can be as important as career progression and assignment to international tasks and project teams.
Why should potential candidates select MONIER as an employer instead of other international companies?
The opportunity to work in an organisation that is both truly international as well as “human sized”, taking into consideration the local specificities, is something that makes MONIER really unique. Our culture is further characterised by participative and supportive style and a strong entrepreneurial attitude combined with a high level of responsibility and freedom to take decisions. Finally, our leadership position in providing our customers with products that fulfill a basic human need of protection, aesthetics and comfort, is a strong factor in characterising our overall culture.
What do you expect from future MONIER employees?
We expect open-minded, quality-orientated employees, ready to work in international teams and take decisions for which they are accountable. We welcome people who are prepared to take some risks and who are committed to deliver the targets they propose.
