MONIER project in Wales
Tuesday 16, November 2010
A MONIER roof was very much in the public eye in 2010 as the clubhouse of the Twenty Ten golf course hosting this year’s Ryder Cup event between Europe and the USA featured the Grey Cambrian Slate from the MONIER UK product brand Redland. Millions of viewers worldwide tuned in to see if Europe’s best golfers can win back the cup last claimed by the USA in 2008 and in the process saw them emerge from under a MONIER roof.
For the first time in history the Ryder Cup was held in Wales and on a golf course designed specifically for golf’s greatest tournament. MONIER’s South Wales based roofing contractor took 6 weeks to complete the 1950m² roof on schedule, also making use of a dry fix specification including Redland Uni-angle ridges and hips and a Redland rapid ridge and hip system. The architects specified Cambrian Slate as it looks and weathers just like natural Welsh slate without the considerable cost. All Cambrian slates are actually manufactured in Wales and are also made up of 60% recycled Welsh slate, making them some of the most environmentally friendly resin slates available in the UK.
