MONIER Netherlands roofs "Golden Tulip" hotel

When Dutch architects wanted to reintroduce atmosphere in the rather impersonal town centre of Amsterdam-Zaandam, they decided to reconstruct the historical street layout. Eye-catcher of the new centre is a 12 storey-high “Golden Tulip” hotel, roofed with 1.375m2 MONIER OVH 200 clay tiles.
The hotel, with its 160 rooms, was built in the style of green-painted wooden houses, which are typical of the nearby Zaan region. Choice of roof tiles was important, because it had to match the look of the different house types - ranging from a notary’s mansion to a worker’s cottage – that the architects wanted to refer to. Clay tiles from MONIER Netherlands in natural red colour were perfect for the job: with their classic, curved look they are generally used for different house types like dwellings or functional buildings and their colour blends in naturally with the expressive façade.
